The Special Olympics Vermont Penguin Plunge is a beloved annual tradition that brings together more than 1,000 Vermonters who bravely jump into the freezing waters of Lake Champlain to support over 2,000 athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Vermont.

In the spirit of the Special Olympics Athlete Oath, "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt" every Plunger takes a leap outside their comfort zone in support of our athletes, who demonstrate courage and determination every day. The Penguin Plunge is about more than jumping into icy water it's about being brave together!

Now in its 32nd year, the Penguin Plunge has become more than just a fundraiser. It's a powerful community tradition that promotes inclusion, celebrates ability, and helps provide year-round sports training, competitions, health programs, and leadership opportunities for Special Olympics Vermont athletes.
